Allied Critical Metals Reports Major Upgrade to Mineral Resource Estimate at Borralha Tungsten Project in Northern Portugal
Allied Critical Metals has announced a substantial increase in the mineral resource estimate at its Borralha Tungsten Project in northern Portugal, marking a major milestone for what is emerging as one of Europe’s most promising critical mineral assets. The updated estimate follows an extensive drilling and geological modelling program conducted over the past year.
According to the company, the new resource estimate reflects a significant rise in both tonnage and contained tungsten, supported by higher-grade mineralization identified across multiple zones. The increase strengthens Borralha’s potential as a future supplier of tungsten—a strategically vital metal used in defence, aerospace, electronics, and renewable energy technologies.
Located in the Braga district, the Borralha deposit was historically one of Portugal’s key tungsten mines before operations ceased several decades ago. Allied Critical Metals’ ongoing redevelopment initiative aims to revitalize the region through modern exploration techniques and sustainable mining practices.
Company executives stated that the upgraded resource estimate will play a central role in advancing the project toward feasibility studies and development planning. They added that Borralha’s strategic location within the European Union offers significant advantages as the EU pushes to secure domestic supply chains for critical minerals.
The updated assessment is expected to draw increased interest from investors and strategic partners at a time when global tungsten supply remains heavily concentrated in a few countries, underscoring the importance of diversifying production sources.
