Coal India CMD Appeals to Unions to Exempt Coal Sector From Feb 12 One-Day Strike

Coal India Chairman and Managing Director has urged employees’ unions to exempt the coal industry from the proposed one-day nationwide strike scheduled for February 12. The appeal comes amid concerns that any disruption in coal production and supply could impact power generation and other critical sectors.

In his communication to union leaders, the CMD highlighted the strategic importance of the coal sector to the country’s energy security and economic stability. He emphasized that uninterrupted coal supplies are essential to meet rising power demand and to ensure smooth functioning of industries dependent on coal.

Coal India officials said the management remains open to dialogue with unions to address their concerns, while stressing the need to maintain operational continuity. Union bodies have yet to take a final call on whether the coal sector will be excluded from the planned strike.
