Draslovka a.s, the leading speciality chemicals company, has announced it will supply sodium cyanide (NaCN) to Barrick Mining Corporation’s Nevada Gold Mines, the largest gold mine in the US. It says this contract reflects Barrick’s confidence in the quality of Draslovka’s NaCN and its ability to provide reliable supply to Nevada Gold Mines, ensuring uninterrupted capacity to process its ore.
The NaCN will be 100% US produced, with production taking place at Draslovka’s Memphis facility, the largest NaCN plant in the world. As part of the multi-year commitment, Draslovka will expand its existing NaCN handling terminal in Carlin, Nevada.
NaCN plays a critical role in gold extraction with the global market for regular supply of the chemical increasingly tightening on the back of continued gold demand and high barriers to new production capacity. As gold producers focus on operational reliability, cost discipline, responsible production and locally sourced resources, Draslovka plays a crucial role by delivering domestically produced, safe and well-managed NaCN.
Pavel Bruzek Jr, CEO of Draslovka, commented: “Our supply agreement with Barrick reflects our ability to deliver safe and reliable supply at scale that meets the highest operational and environmental standards. The crucial role played by NaCN is often overlooked as it represents only a few percent of a
gold miner’s recovery costs. However, without it, it is impossible to produce gold. The global NaCN market has been tightening for years due to a lack of new production capacity, which has only become more strained due to unprecedented demand for gold. I am proud that Draslovka is filling the supply gap with our premium product.”
He adds: “Given our strong presence and heritage, North America continues to be a strategically
important market for us. With this contract, we have increased our footprint and will continue
to do so to further build out our position.”
Jimmy Richards, Vice President of Commercial & Supply Chain at Barrick, commented: “We are pleased to partner with Draslovka for the responsible supply of NaCN to Nevada Gold Mines. Draslovka has shown the commitment to safety, quality and security of supply that reflect the standards of Nevada Gold Mines.”
