Sandvik to supply loaders, trucks and drills to Aris Mining for Marmato gold expansion

Sandvik Mining says it has received a large order from Aris Mining for underground mining equipment to support the expansion of its Marmato operation in Colombia. The equipment package includes loaders, underground trucks and a range of development, production and longhole drilling rigs.

Mats Eriksson, President of Sandvik Mining, said: “This order reflects the strong partnership we have built with Aris Mining and their confidence in Sandvik’s underground mining solutions.

“By supplying a comprehensive fleet of underground equipment to Marmato, we are supporting Aris Mining’s growth ambitions while helping improve productivity, safety and operational efficiency at their operations.”

In addition to the equipment supply, the agreement includes a maintenance and repair services contract, supporting high equipment availability and lifecycle performance. Discussions regarding potential future collaboration on automation, digital solutions and mine optimisation technologies are ongoing.

Marmato has historically mined the Narrow Vein Mine Zone, an epithermal gold deposit requiring small-scale, labour-intensive mining methods, and processed its mill feed through a 1,000 tpd flotation plant. Aris Mining is currently expanding Marmato by:

  • Accessing the Bulk Mining Zone, a porphyry hosted mesothermal gold deposit below the Narrow Vein Mining Zone; and
  • Building a new Carbon-in-Pulp processing plant with a throughput capacity of 5,000 t/d and significantly improved recoveries compared to the flotation plant.

Utilising mechanized bulk mining methods together with processing the mill feed through the new, much larger CIP plant is expected to significantly increase productivity and grow annual gold production, Aris Mining says. At steady state, expanded Marmato is expected to produce around 200,000 oz/y of gold.
