Volvo Trucks India launches FMX Edge mining truck

Volvo Trucks India has introduced the Volvo FMX Edge, described as a new-generation off-road dump truck designed to enhance productivity, efficiency and operational reliability in India’s mining sector. The truck was unveiled at Volvo’s manufacturing facility in Hoskote, Bengaluru, in the presence of mining industry customers, senior executives from Volvo Trucks, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd and Volvo Construction Equipment.

Developed on the foundation of Volvo Trucks’ widely deployed FMX platform, the Volvo FMX Edge has been engineered specifically for modern mining applications. The launch comes at a time when mining operations are increasingly focused on higher output, improved safety standards, predictable operating performance and long-term lifecycle efficiency.

The unveiling ceremony was led by Per-Erik Lindström, President – Sales Area International, Volvo Trucks; B Srinivas, Managing Director and CEO, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd; B Dinakar, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Volvo Trucks India; and Arun Pillai, Vice President, Volvo Trucks India & Indonesia.

Over the past five years, the Volvo FMX500 8×4 platform has built a strong presence in Indian mining operations, with more than 3,000 trucks currently deployed across the country. Building on this success, the FMX Edge has been designed to address the evolving needs of large-scale mining operations.

The new dump truck features a 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity along with a 2.8 m wide body configuration. The design enables better compatibility with high-capacity excavators, improved loading efficiency and faster operational cycles for overburden transportation.

Powered by Volvo’s proven drivetrain and equipped with advanced safety systems, the FMX Edge has been developed to deliver dependable full-load performance, enhanced vehicle stability and improved fuel efficiency.

Speaking at the launch, Per-Erik Lindström said India continues to be a strategically important market for the Volvo Group. He noted that the FMX Edge reflects Volvo Trucks’ commitment to developing solutions aligned with the practical requirements of Indian mining customers.

B Srinivas stated that Volvo Trucks has built long-standing trust in the Indian mining industry through solutions tailored for demanding operating conditions. He added that the FMX Edge has been designed around customer priorities such as uptime, productivity, safety and lifecycle value.

According to B Dinakar, the truck has been shaped through extensive feedback from mine operators, maintenance teams and drivers, ensuring that it addresses real-world mining challenges. Arun Pillai added that the FMX Edge combines Volvo’s established engineering platform with application-focused innovations suited for today’s mining environment.

Following the launch, customers participated in an application demonstration session at the Volvo CE Customer Centre Ground, where Volvo Trucks and Volvo Construction Equipment jointly showcased integrated mining solutions focused on productivity and operational performance. With the introduction of the Volvo FMX Edge, Volvo Trucks India aims to strengthen its position in the mining segment by offering purpose-built solutions engineered for efficiency, durability and long-term value.
