Sandvik has appointed Thomas Vallant as President of its Ground Support division, part of business area Sandvik Mining, effective August 1, 2026.
Vallant brings more than 20 years of mining industry experience and has held multiple positions within Sandvik since joining the company in 2005. Most recently, he served as President of the Mechanical Cutting division.
A certified international mining engineer, Vallant holds a degree in mechanical engineering with a specialisation in automation and an MBA from the Institute of Management in Salzburg, Austria.
He said: “Ground support is fundamental to the safety and success of underground mining and tunneling operations. As our customers navigate increasingly complex operating environments, we remain focused on delivering innovative solutions, technical expertise and strong partnerships that help them address evolving challenges. By working closely with our customers, we support safer, more efficient and more sustainable underground operations around the world.”
DSI Underground became part of Sandvik in 2021 and was rebranded as Sandvik Mining Ground Support in 2024.
