Blink Charging Co., a leading provider of electric vehicle EV charging infrastructure, and Create Energy, known for its advanced energy solutions, have partnered to roll out an innovative solar-powered EV charging system. The announcement marks a significant step forward in integrating renewable energy and EV infrastructure, aiming to solve some of the most common challenges associated with electric vehicle charging and grid reliability.

The new solution combines Blink’s lineup of Level 2 and DC fast chargers with Create Energy’s Nanogrid technology. At the heart of this offering are solar canopies, lithium iron phosphate battery storage systems, and sophisticated energy management software. The integrated design provides a fully renewable source of electricity for EV charging, enabling sites to significantly reduce their dependence on grid electricity.

“This collaboration is about redefining what’s possible in EV infrastructure. By incorporating Create Energy’s Nanogrid systems into our EV charging portfolio and business models, we’re providing a fully integrated approach to energy and charging that improves performance, enhances resiliency, and enables faster, more cost-efficient deployment. The collaboration is a dual market agreement, allowing both companies to sell this solution to our respective markets.” — Mike Battaglia, CEO and President of Blink Charging

A key advantage of the Blink/Create solution is its ability to operate independently from the local grid. By generating power through solar panels and storing excess energy in integrated battery systems, the setup can effectively handle peak demand times without incurring costly demand charges. This capability is especially beneficial for remote locations or urban areas where grid constraints and high demand charges previously posed significant barriers.

Create Energy’s Nanogrid technology has already established its reliability through real-world applications, most notably a longstanding solar-powered EV charging canopy at Nissan North America’s headquarters. This particular installation has been operational without interruption since its deployment, validating the long-term viability and scalability of the technology.

The partnership allows Blink and Create to market the integrated solar-charging system within their existing customer bases and beyond. Blink’s DC fast charging stations can now optionally incorporate Create’s Nanogrid, while Create Energy’s new Nanogrid deployments will seamlessly include Blink charging stations. The companies emphasize that this combined offering simplifies the often complex process of installing sustainable EV charging infrastructure, making it more accessible to commercial operators, fleet managers, municipalities, and private businesses.

“We’re thrilled to supercharge our Create Energy solutions by joining forces with Blink Charging’s top-notch EV hardware and software. Together, we’re not just building a one-stop-shop ecosystem—we’re adding serious muscle to our growing ‘un-evil empire’ of innovation! This powerhouse collaboration puts groundbreaking Nanogrid technology at Blink customers’ fingertips, paving the way for enhanced resilience and a brighter energy future. Let’s Create change!” — Dean Solon, Founder and CEO of Create Energy

The initial rollout of this integrated solution begins in the US market, with ambitions for international expansion to Blink’s global markets. Blink expects the system to significantly enhance its competitiveness in various infrastructure incentive programs, such as the UK’s Low Emission Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) initiative. By integrating renewable energy and battery storage into its chargers, Blink aims to reduce the overall impact on the local electricity grid and improve project scoring for funding opportunities.

Overall, this strategic partnership between Blink Charging and Create Energy signals a meaningful advancement toward sustainable energy solutions, offering a practical, reliable, and scalable approach to EV infrastructure. As electric vehicle adoption continues to accelerate worldwide, innovative collaborations like this one are becoming essential in meeting the demand for sustainable and resilient charging networks.
