Buick is coming out with an awesome new electric vehicle, the Electra 7. It comes with more than 700 km (435 miles) of range, and it can recharge 450 km (280 miles) in 10 minutes. Forget about range anxiety. Forget about charging anxiety. This can run for days and can recharge while you use the restroom.
Naturally, this is built on an 800-volt high-voltage platform, and Buick claims that it is the “safest in the industry.” We don’t know how that was measured or if it’s just a broad claim that the company hopes is true. To get that ultra-fast charging, the vehicle includes 6C technology.
We don’t know pricing yet, but by this point, you probably know a key matter here: the Buick Electra L7 is going on sale in China, not the US of A. A buyer can now put down a 1,000-yuan ($147) deposit and get 6,000 yuan off the purchase price for doing so. Such pre-orders can be placed by August 19.
If this was going on sale in the United States, my brain would be exploding. However, in China, it’s just another vehicle. There are so many great, competitive EVs in China now that I honestly don’t have a clue how I’d choose one. It’s easy from afar to think “Oh, I’d get that one, and that one, and that one…,” but you have to eventually make a single choice, and I don’t know how I’d do it. In this case, I wouldn’t actually buy the Buick, not just because it’s an American brand I wouldn’t necessarily trust, but also because it’s a midsize to large sedan, and I prefer smaller vehicles. Here are its core dimensions:
- 5,032 mm — length
- 1,952 mm — width
- 1,500 mm — height
- 3,000 mm — wheelbase.
It does have some cool features, though. “The vehicle features a road-preview chassis system that Buick says can detect surface bumps up to 20 meters ahead,” CnEVPost shares. “Its cabin is powered by Qualcomm’s SA8775P chip and features a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central display and a 50-inch panoramic augmented-reality head-up display.
“For driver assistance, the model deeply integrates the R6 end-to-end large model from Chinese autonomous-driving startup Momenta. It supports seamless urban Navigation on Autopilot (NOA) and parking assistance for all types of parking spaces.”
