In a major step toward enhancing digital connectivity, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced the launch of 4G network services across 6,659 sites spanning various districts of Uttar Pradesh. The move underscores BSNL’s renewed commitment to strengthening telecom infrastructure and bridging the digital divide in India’s most populous state.
The rollout is part of the government’s ambitious initiative to expand affordable and reliable mobile connectivity in rural and semi-urban regions. The project, implemented under the Revamped BSNL 4G Mission, is aligned with Digital India’s vision of inclusive digital growth.
Boost to Rural Connectivity
The introduction of BSNL’s indigenous 4G technology in Uttar Pradesh is expected to significantly improve network coverage in rural and remote areas, enabling millions of residents to access faster internet, digital services, and e-governance platforms. This will also benefit small businesses, students, and farmers by facilitating online education, digital payments, and real-time agricultural updates.
Indigenous Technology Push
The rollout uses homegrown 4G technology developed by a consortium of Indian companies including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tejas Networks, and C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics). This aligns with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) mission, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign telecom equipment.
Digital Transformation in Motion
According to BSNL officials, the deployment will not only enhance connectivity but also lay the groundwork for a future 5G upgrade. With this expansion, BSNL is positioning itself as a strong competitor in India’s telecom market, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
The company’s focus on affordable plans, pan-India reach, and indigenous technology makes it a key player in ensuring that no region is left behind in India’s digital revolution.
Government’s Vision
The government has been actively supporting BSNL’s revival through financial packages, modernization drives, and spectrum allocation. The 4G rollout in Uttar Pradesh is a major milestone under this initiative, aimed at making BSNL a digitally empowered state-run telecom leader.
