BYD plugin vehicle sales were up yet again in April. Year over year, plugin vehicle sales were up 19%. However, that only tells part of the story.
Just looking at full electric vehicles (BEVs), sales were up 46% year over year in April. On the flip side, plugin hybrid sales were down slightly (-0.4%).
Without a doubt, BYD was the #1 BEV seller in the world in April. It logged 195,740 sales, bringing its total for the first 4 months of the year up to 612,128. That January–April total, by the way, is a 41% year over year. That’s impressive in itself, but it’s interesting that the April growth was even bigger than the year-to-date growth.
In terms of plugin hybrids (PHEVs), as mentioned above, they were down 0.4% in April, but they were still up 48.8% for the year through April. They were 176,875 in April, and reached 746,585 across the first four months of the year.
So, overall, BYD’s plugin sales were up 19.4% in April year over year, and they were up 45.1% across the first 4 months of the year. They totaled 372,615 in April and 1,358,703 from January–April.
Not too bad, eh?
Naturally, it’s still the early months of the year, when BYD’s sales are the lowest. The growth year over year is enormous if you look closely. But expect even much bigger numbers in later months.
