BYD + Miraculous — Saving the World in Different Ways

As the father of two young girls, I can speak with some authority on this story. There’s a hit show called Miraculous where a high school girl in Paris also becomes a superhero. I won’t go into the details, but, as a superhero must do, she’s constantly saving the world. The girl’s superhero costume is ladybug themed, so her hero name is Ladybug. Mediawan Group is apparently the production company behind this show, and it’s now partnering with BYD.

“Driven by shared values of innovation, sustainability, and global openness, BYD and Mediawan are combining their expertise to facilitate the funding and development of premium content,” BYD shares. While the partnership will have several aspects to it, the biggest one seems to be collaboration connected to the release of a Miraculous movie that’s in development. Here’s more from BYD:

“First, the two companies will develop collaborations that integrate the BYD brand in various ways across Mediawan Group productions. This includes featuring BYD vehicles in upcoming flagship projects, such as the recently announced ‘Miraculous®’ theatrical feature film for the globally loved franchise.

“Second, they will establish a joint ‘Build Your Dreams’ Award, celebrating the best emerging creative and young talents over the next three years on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival. Each year, the winner will receive a €40,000 grant as part of the award.

“Finally, the partnership will include the development of original formats inspired by the BYD brand. Notably, Ladybug, the popular superheroine from the internationally successful French series ‘Miraculous – Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir’ will introduce a special episode of the Miraculous Chibi series, to be released on YouTube.”

Without a doubt, this partnership will expand BYD’s reach in Europe and beyond. Will it expand BYD awareness and purchases overnight? I’m not so sure about that, especially since it’s mostly young girls who watch Miraculous. However, it could help BYD get a few more feet into the European market.

The Build Your Dreams motto does nicely fit with the dreamy, idealistic main character of the show/movie. I look forward to seeing how BYD electric vehicles are featured.
