Coal India Expands Mechanised Sampling to Boost Transparency and Coal Quality

New Delhi: State-owned miner Coal India Limited has expanded the deployment of mechanised coal sampling systems across its operations as part of efforts to enhance transparency, accuracy in quality assessment, and customer confidence.

The mechanised sampling initiative aims to eliminate manual intervention in sample collection, ensuring representative samples and reducing scope for disputes over grade and quality. According to the company, the move will strengthen trust between producers and consumers, particularly power utilities and industrial users who rely heavily on consistent coal quality.

Coal India has been progressively installing mechanised sampling units at loading points, sidings, and dispatch locations, enabling real-time and tamper-proof sample collection. The system also supports faster analysis and improved data integrity, helping buyers plan operations more efficiently.

The expansion aligns with Coal India’s broader digitalisation and technology adoption strategy, focused on modernising coal production and supply chains while supporting the country’s energy security objectives.
