Green Energy for Inclusion: 54 kW Solar Power Plant Commissioned at PDUNIPPD, New Delhi

In a noteworthy stride towards sustainable infrastructure and inclusive development, a 54 kW solar power plant was inaugurated at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (PDUNIPPD) in New Delhi. The initiative was spearheaded by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, with active support from Legrand India.

The solar power plant is not only a technological upgrade but also a symbol of the government’s commitment to green development that includes the needs of every section of society. The project reflects an integration of renewable energy goals with the mission of empowering persons with disabilities.

Leadership Commitment to Clean Energy

Inaugurating the plant, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, DEPwD, highlighted the significance of this initiative in advancing both environmental and economic goals. He underlined that the solar plant represents a step toward energy self-reliance, contributing directly to reduced carbon emissions and operational cost-efficiency for the institute.

Shri Aggarwal appreciated the contribution of Legrand India, stating that their collaboration sets an inspiring precedent for public-private partnerships in the clean energy domain. He encouraged other institutions across India to follow the example and integrate renewable energy solutions into their infrastructure.

Direct Benefits to the Institute

Dr. Jitendra Sharma, Director of PDUNIPPD, reported that the plant has already led to a 30% reduction in electricity costs. This cost-saving will allow the institute to reinvest resources into critical rehabilitation services, educational programs, and infrastructural improvements.

Deputy Director General Smt. Richa Shankar also addressed the faculty and students, urging continuous improvements in service delivery and academic excellence for the benefit of persons with disabilities.
