Holcim ups electric mining equipment fleet investment in Poland

At the 2 Mt/y Małogoszcz Cement Plant, which is supplied by a large captive limestone quarrying operation, Holcim says it is showing that the energy transition in a mining environment is already possible. It has completed the second stage of the expansion of the charging station for its mining electric vehicles which it says is “another step in the consistent implementation of the strategy of decarbonisation and reducing the carbon footprint throughout the value chain.”

As part of the investment, the total capacity of the Kempower charging stations increased by an additional 1.2 MW, reaching 1.6 MW. “It is an infrastructure designed for work in industrial realities – where not only the ability to charge vehicles is important, but also the pace, reliability and adaptation to the rhythm of the plant’s work.” The station was equipped with 3 CCS2 satellites, each with a power of up to 400 kW, and the first MCS satellite in Poland, ie the Megawatt Charging System, with a power of as much as 1,200 kW. This solution it says sets a new standard for charging heavy-duty electric vehicles in the industrial sector.

The expansion of the charging infrastructure goes hand in hand with the development of the vehicle fleet. Another three electric mining dump trucks were put into operation at the Małogoszcz Cement Plant, and the entire fleet increased to five battery electric SANY SKT105E units.

Holcim: “This is an important element of the transformation of the plant. Electric dump trucks can support the reduction of emissions associated with inland transport while remaining suitable for harsh mining conditions…industrial transformation is not based solely on declarations. It requires technology, infrastructure, partnerships and consistent implementation of solutions that work in practice. The expansion of the charging station in Małogoszcz is an example of an investment that combines environmental goals with the operational needs of the plant.”

By increasing charging capacity and developing its fleet of electric vehicles, Holcim says it is strengthening the foundations of low-emission inland transport in heavy industry. This is especially important in the cement sector, where reducing emissions requires action on many levels – from production, through logistics, to the operation of machinery and the transport of raw materials.

The investment in the Małogoszcz Cement Plant it adds: “shows that electromobility in heavy industry is not a distant vision, but a real direction of change. The implementation of 1.6 MW infrastructure, including the first MCS satellite in Poland, and the use of five electric mining dump trucks is proof that emission reduction is also possible in demanding operating conditions.”

It adds that this is the next stage in building a more sustainable business model – one that supports the development of modern construction and at the same time responds to climate challenges. “Step by step, Holcim is reducing its carbon footprint across the entire value chain by investing in solutions that are already changing the way the industry operates today.”

It also says that it is worth noting that the Małogoszcz Cement Plant is just one of the examples of a broader transformation that Holcim is consistently implementing in Poland. The total capacity of the charging infrastructure installed at Holcim’s plants in the country is already about 4.4 MW, and by the end of 2026, about 20% of the entire fleet of heavy machinery operating in Holcim’s mines in Poland is expected to be electric.

Similar solutions are already in place, for example at the Kujawy limestone mining operation, where 1 MW of charging power is available, four SANY SKT105E electric dump trucks and one LiuGong 8110TE electric wheel loader are in operation, as well as in the Radkowice dolomite quarry, where the infrastructure includes 0.8 MW of power, two electric chargers and two SKT105E electric dump trucks. “This shows that Holcim does not treat electromobility as a single pilot project, but as a viable direction for the development of heavy transport and machinery in the mining industry.”

In March 2026, SANY signed an agreement with Holcim covering the delivery of 100 units of electric equipment within the next three years and deployment of 20 autonomous mining trucks across Holcim’s global operations over the next two years.
