IAMGOLD Corporation announced on Monday that its flagship Côté Gold mine in Ontario, Canada, has officially reached its nameplate production capacity, nearly 15 months after pouring its first gold. This milestone marks a major operational achievement for the mid-tier gold producer and reinforces Côté Gold’s role as a cornerstone asset in the company’s growth portfolio.
A Major Milestone for IAMGOLD
The Côté Gold mine, a joint venture between IAMGOLD (60%) and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. (40%), began commercial production in early 2024. Reaching nameplate capacity means the mine is now operating at its designed throughput and efficiency levels, a critical benchmark in mine commissioning and lifecycle development.
According to the company, this milestone was achieved thanks to continuous optimization, skilled workforce performance, and efficient ramp-up planning, despite facing early technical and logistical challenges.
Côté Gold: A World-Class Asset
Located in northeastern Ontario, the Côté Gold project is one of the largest undeveloped open-pit gold deposits in Canada. It boasts an estimated proven and probable reserve base of over 7 million ounces of gold, with a mine life projected to exceed 18 years.
The mine employs automated drilling and hauling fleets, making it one of the few operations in North America integrating autonomous technology on such a scale. IAMGOLD has called the project “a transformational asset” that will lower its average cost per ounce and improve long-term production stability.
Strategic Impact for IAMGOLD
With the Côté mine now at full capacity, IAMGOLD is expected to significantly increase its annual gold output, contributing approximately 365,000 ounces per year on a 100% basis, or roughly 219,000 ounces attributable to IAMGOLD.
This will help the company improve its cash flow profile, reduce its all-in sustaining costs (AISC), and strengthen its position among North American gold producers. IAMGOLD has already indicated that this performance boost will support debt reduction and further project development across its portfolio.
Local and Economic Benefits
The mine is also providing substantial economic benefits to the province of Ontario, including local employment, Indigenous partnerships, and regional procurement contracts. IAMGOLD has highlighted its collaboration with First Nations communities, ensuring long-term socio-economic development in the region.
The achievement of nameplate capacity at the Côté Gold mine represents a significant step forward for IAMGOLD’s operational and strategic roadmap. As global gold markets remain robust, this development positions the company for sustained production growth, increased financial resilience, and deeper value creation for shareholders and stakeholders alike.
