India–Netherlands Discuss Strategic Cooperation on Critical Raw Materials

A high-level meeting was held at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, where Shri Piyush Goyal, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, met Ms. Yvette van Eechoud, Secretary for Trade and Economic Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with H.E. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to India.

The dialogue centred on deepening strategic cooperation in the field of Critical Raw Materials, an area of growing global importance due to rising needs in clean energy technologies, electronics, defence manufacturing, and advanced industrial applications.

Both sides acknowledged the urgent need to build a sustainable, secure, and resilient mineral value chain. The discussion covered a wide set of collaborative opportunities including:

  • Enhancing processing capacities for essential minerals
  • Strengthening recycling systems to reduce dependence on primary mining
  • Developing joint stockpiling strategies to secure long-term supply
  • Promoting research and technology exchange for value-added mineral processing
  • Encouraging industry-level cooperation between companies and institutions in both countries

India highlighted its policy reforms aimed at opening new avenues for responsible mining, private investment, and global partnerships. The Netherlands emphasized its commitment to sustainable sourcing, circular economy principles, and joint action on strategic mineral security.

Stakeholders such as Gangapuram Kishan Reddy, Netherlands Embassy in India, Ministry of External Affairs, India, Doordarshan Kendra, All India Radio, and MyGov India were also referenced in discussions related to enhancing cooperation outreach and public awareness.

The meeting marks a significant step in India–Netherlands collaboration toward ensuring resource security, promoting sustainability, and supporting the global transition to clean and resilient supply chains.
