I was very disappointed today when checking Kia’s US EV sales numbers for April. They crashed — hard.
Kia EV6 sales were down from 2,051 sales in April 2024 to 656 sales in April 2025. Kia EV6 sales were down from 1,572 sales in April 2024 to 232 sales in April 2025. Not good….
However, it seems there might be an explanation for it — and it’s not that the CEO has been making Nazi salutes and telling people it’s time to get over World War II. Does anyone even know who the CEO of Kia is?
“Kia has officially commenced production of EV6 and EV9 at our manufacturing facility in Georgia, where both models qualify for federal tax incentives. And now, Kia’s EV customers will benefit from enhanced charging flexibility and more convenience than ever before since Kia adopted both CCS and NACS charging standards, which opens access to more than 40,000 charging points nationwide. Recently, Kia unveiled significant enhancements to our model lineup with the debuts of the EV4, K4 hatchback, and the EV9 Nightfall Edition at the New York International Auto Show,” the company writes. Kia doesn’t say so, but perhaps this change of production location led to a temporary production and sales drop. One can hope!
Kia also noted in this news release as well as a world-focused news release from the Kia Global Media Center that the Kia EV3 won the prestigious World Car of the Year recently, which we covered. “Lastly, Kia’s award streak continued with the EV3 named ‘World Car of the Year.’ This marks the second consecutive year Kia took home this prestigious award as EV9 was the 2024 ‘World Car of the Year’ winner,” Kia writes.
In the global release, Kia indicated that EV sales were boosted by the new models. “The addition of new models — such as the EV3 full-electric SUV, named World Car of the Year at the 2025 World Car Awards — the EV4 full-electric sedan, and the Tasman pick-up truck, helped boost sales.” Though, there was no mention of the EV6 and EV9. We’ll have to keep an eye on this and see where things go.
