The Ministry of Coal is set to unveil ‘Koyla Shakti’, a state-of-the-art Smart Analytics Dashboard aimed at enabling data-driven decision-making and transparency in India’s coal sector. The initiative marks a major step toward digital transformation and sustainable governance, aligning with the government’s broader vision under Digital India.
Developed in collaboration with leading technology partners and policy think tanks, the Koyla Shakti platform will integrate data from various coal public sector undertakings (PSUs) and private miners to provide real-time insights into production, dispatch, environmental compliance, and operational efficiency.
“The goal is to bring transparency, accountability, and efficiency to coal operations across the country,” said a senior official from the Ministry of Coal. “Koyla Shakti will help policymakers monitor sectoral performance in real time and make informed decisions to optimize production and sustainability.”
A Leap Toward Smart Coal Governance
The dashboard will consolidate over 30 key performance indicators (KPIs) related to coal mining, logistics, and revenue generation. Using advanced data visualization and AI-driven analytics, it will enable ministry officials to track performance, identify bottlenecks, and forecast future trends.
Officials said that Koyla Shakti would also provide state-wise and company-wise analytics, enabling quick comparisons and benchmarking across different subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) and private sector miners.
Integration with Other Portals
Koyla Shakti will be linked with other digital initiatives such as the Mine Summary Portal, Single Window Clearance System, and Online Coal Auction Platform, creating a unified data ecosystem for the coal value chain. The integration will allow end-to-end monitoring — from mine allocation to dispatch — ensuring better governance and compliance.
Supporting India’s Energy Security
With India still relying on coal for around 70% of its power generation, efficient and sustainable management of coal resources remains vital. The Koyla Shakti dashboard will assist the government in optimizing resource allocation, monitoring production targets, and aligning with the country’s energy transition goals.
Experts believe that such data-centric reforms could significantly improve operational efficiency in the sector while supporting India’s commitment to cleaner and more responsible mining practices.
“The introduction of Koyla Shakti represents a major modernization milestone for the Indian coal industry,” said Dr. R.K. Singh, energy policy analyst. “It brings together digital technology and policy management in a way that enhances both productivity and sustainability.”
The Ministry of Coal plans to officially launch the Koyla Shakti dashboard next month, with a phased rollout across coal subsidiaries and state mining departments. Once fully operational, the platform is expected to become a cornerstone of smart governance and data transparency in India’s coal ecosystem.
