Minera Las Bambas SA, part of MMG, has awarded Peruvian Caterpillar dealer Ferreyros a contract for a large fleet of machines, with the potential to expand to 45 units. This includes a fleet of ultra-class trucks, totalling 27 Cat 798 units with a 400-metric-ton capacity.
This year, Ferreyros will deliver more than 20 machines, including 12 trucks, a Cat 7495 shovel, an MD6380 drill rig, along with other auxiliary equipment. Specifically, it says the Cat 798 electric-drive trucks, the largest in the industry, optimise the cost per tonne due to attributes such as their speed, the largest volumetric capacity on the market, and long engine life. Las Bambas is thus expanding its fleet of Caterpillar ultra-class trucks, adding to the existing Cat 797F fleet at the mine.
The Cat 7495 shovel, to be delivered to the Las Bambas mine at over 4,000 m above sea level, is the largest machine in the Caterpillar portfolio, standing over 20 m tall. It is a state-of-the-art model with cutting-edge electrical control systems, assisted intelligence, and real-time predictive vibration monitoring.
The high-performance Cat MD6380 diesel drill incorporates technologies to maximise production such as Auto Drill, Auto Mast and Auto Level. The fleet arriving at Las Bambas also includes large-scale auxiliary equipment, such as Cat tractors and motor graders; the Cat 395 hydraulic excavator and other key equipment.
“This complete Caterpillar fleet, with the support of Ferreyros, will be put at the service of incremental production at Las Bambas, a mining company that is fundamental in the sector’s contribution to the development of our country,” highlighted Gonzalo Díaz Pró, General Manager of Ferreyros.
“We will support this Caterpillar fleet with 24/7 on-site service, backed by our world-class mechanical and electrical component rebuilding workshops in La Joya and Lima, as well as Cat MineStar condition monitoring technology,” said Santiago Basualdo, Ferreyros’ Central Manager of Large-Scale Mining.
With 103 years of national presence, Ferreyros says it is the leading company in heavy machinery and specialised services in Peru. It has been a Caterpillar representative since 1942.
