More Than 100,000 Pre-Orders For The Xiaomi Sky Nomad?

There are many hot new thangs in the Chinese EV market, but I don’t think any company has made a hotter overall splash in the past few years than Xiaomi. The consumer electronics company stormed into the EV market and was immediately a huge hit. Its first couple of models — first couple of cars at all — have done what a million other companies have failed to do — shot right up into the top tier of the EV sales charts. Now it’s introduced the Xiaomi Sky Nomad, and this model is following suit.

Note that this is an extended-range SUV. Reportedly, the model has pulled in more than 100,000 pre-orders. “Since the pre-sale of Xiaomi’s Pengcheng series new cars began, market enthusiasm has remained high. In the following week, Cailian Press reporters conducted on-site visits and telephone inquiries with Xiaomi Auto direct-sale stores in multiple cities across the country, including Beijing, Wuhan, Shanghai, and Chengdu, to obtain information on the pre-sale status and feedback from the end-market for the Pengcheng series new cars,” a local news outlet reports (Google Translation).

“On August 3rd and 4th, reporters visited several Xiaomi Auto direct-sale stores in Beijing and found that the number of customers visiting the stores has been steadily increasing recently. At one of the first Xiaomi Auto stores to open in a key Beijing commercial district, a Pengcheng N90 was parked in the middle of the store. With the front seats folded down, it created a seating area with the second-row seats, showcasing the new car’s spacious interior. During the visit, several customers came to inquire about how to pre-order the new car.”

The news outlet also provided some quotes from salespeople at these stores. “Our store has received over 300 deposit orders for the Pengcheng series so far, with the N90 seven-seater model accounting for a higher percentage of orders and being the preferred choice for consumers,” on salesperson told the outlet.

“An employee at another Xiaomi car store located in a shopping mall in Beijing said that the pre-sale enthusiasm for the new car exploded over the weekend. On Sunday (August 2) alone, there were 4,800 deposit orders in Beijing, and the cumulative number of pre-orders in the Beijing-Tianjin area has exceeded 30,000.”

In short, this vehicle is going to sell like McDonald’s french fries.

Xiaomi aims to sell around 550,000 vehicles in total this year. The company moves approximately 30,000 units a month of its popular SU7 and YU7 full electric vehicles. The Sky Nomad will boost the company’s numbers quite a bit.
