To kick off its 75th anniversary year, Derrick Corporation unveiled its new Derrick Experience Center (DEX Center) on January 6, 2026. This “first-of-its-kind” facility it says gives current and future customers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with advanced fine screen technology closer than they ever have before.
“This state-of-the-art facility gives our global customers an exclusive opportunity to conduct full-scale testing of their samples on our latest and greatest technological offerings,” said Mitch Derrick, CEO of Derrick Corporation. “I am incredibly proud of the amazing team that brought this project home. We look forward to hosting our partners from all markets served to collaborate with our impressive DEX staff here in Buffalo, NY.”
Derrick has been pioneering fine screening solutions since 1951, and full-scale lab testing with customer samples has been a cornerstone of its commitment to customer success from the very beginning. The new DEX Center offers both an expansive customer sample testing lab and technology experience hub, providing direct access to full production-scale testing and real-time performance. This hands-on experience enables customers to evaluate equipment under realistic operating conditions, thereby reducing uncertainty and ensuring confident investment decisions.
The test centre has the ability to test various types of material both wet and dry on full size screens to determine machine capacity and screening efficiency. Computer modelling cannot account for particle variations like shape, density, and slurry viscosity. Every sample is different. Depending on the origin of the sample and communition method, some particles may be needle like, while others more spherical still others thin and flat. These variations cause the materials to screen differently. For these reasons, the most reliable way to determine process performance is by testing.
“There’s no substitute for seeing our equipment perform at full scale in person,” says Brad Derrick, President of Derrick Corporation. “It’s the most powerful way to showcase this new technology while also demonstrating the reliability and innovation behind Derrick solutions.”
Spanning 10,000 square feet – more than double the size of Derrick’s previous lab – the DEX Center dramatically expands testing capacity. Engineers can now process three times more samples simultaneously, supported by dedicated wet and dry testing wings and a centralised observation room where customers can view tests in real time. The facility will conduct 60-70 test campaigns annually, consisting of thousands of trials across a wide range of materials, including iron ore, copper, sands and industrial minerals. This capability reinforces Derrick’s leadership in fine screening technology and equipment, enabling customers to see firsthand how solutions perform under demanding conditions.
Taking copper as an example, Derrick says its high-capacity classification solutions help copper producers increase grinding circuit throughput, improve flotation recovery rates and lower TCO. Derrick Stack Sizer® and SuperStack® machines are advanced, high-capacity fine wet screening technologies used in copper grinding circuits to replace conventional hydrocyclones. Due to higher screening efficiency, overgrinding is minimised, circulating load reduced significantly and slimes content in the flotation feed also reduced, resulting in significant increase in metal recovery.
“The DEX Center is about validating performance,” says Denny Banks, Senior Vice President of Derrick Corporation. “By testing customer material and showcasing our latest technologies, we help customers reduce uncertainty and improve capital efficiency. This experience ensures they can make informed decisions with confidence.”
