XPENG’s new MONA brand has been off to a good start. It has helped to boost the company’s sales in an extremely competitive, cut-throat market. The relatively young brand now has new versions of its initial model about to arrive, and they are looking like a big hit already.
The MONA M03 has logged over 100,000 sales since deliveries began on August 30, 2024. That’s an extremely impressive start, but it gets even better. The top-spec MONA M03 Max and the MONA M03 Plus were just launched, and they scored 12,566 “locked-in” orders within just one hour of their launch, XPENG shares. From those orders, 83% were for the Max variant and 17% were for the Plus variant.
Initially, the MONA M03 Max’s starting price was supposed to be 155,800 yuan (~$21,625). However, the starting price was 129,800 yuan (~$18,000) at launch, a pretty significant reduction. That’s for the Max Long Range, which has a range rating of 502 km (312 miles). Then there’s the Max Ultra-Long Range (because there are no short range models — only long range and ultra-long range — of course). The Max Ultra-Long Range has a range rating of 600 km (373 miles) and a starting price of 139,800 yuan (~$19,405). That’s stunning range for the price, even if the MONA M03 didn’t look super stylish and cool.
Meanwhile, the MONA M03 Plus Long Range has a 515 km (320 mile) range rating and costs 119,800 yuan (~$16,630) while the MONA M03 Plus Ultra-Long Range has a 620 km (385 mile) range rating and costs 129,800 yuan (~$18,000).
The Max also offers three new paint options — stardust purple, pale moon grey, and star rain cyan. There are also 50 official wraps you can choose from. And, with the Max, you can get a purple interior.
“The Max features a purple interior and upgraded hardware. It has dual Nvidia Orin chips, three millimetre-wave radars, and 12 external cameras. A blue front fascia light distinguishes the Max models,” CarNewsChina reports.
Additionally, XPENG is including driver-assist tech on these cars! “According to XPeng, the MONA M03 Max is the only vehicle under 200,000 yuan (around 27,800 USD) that offers urban and highway-assisted driving functions. These include NGP for city and highway use, real-time city navigation without preloaded maps, low-clearance parking (requiring just 30 cm of space), and door-opening safety alerts. The system runs on a 508 TOPS computing platform, supported by an end-to-end AI model.”
Frankly, even before you learn about the driver-assist features, when you look at this car, it’s almost unbelievable that it costs just about $20,000. That said, it will surely cost more when sold in other countries. And, yes, it will be sold in other countries. XPENG has said that it will be sold worldwide. Of course, that surely doesn’t mean every single country — the US definitely won’t get it — but hopefully the car will be sold in several South American markets, in parts of Africa, across Europe, and in several other Asian countries. But … imagine if you could get this car in the US for even $30,000, let alone $20,000 or $17,000!
I would think the MONA M03 Max and MONA M03 Plus would be popular models in China just looking at the specs and pricing, but with the high initial order tally, I think we can say that it is guaranteed to sell well.
