Pump.fun Has a Plan: Time for Solana Meme Coins And SOLUSD To Rip?

Pump.fun is introducing a new revenue-sharing model that will fuel the Solana meme coin boom. Will SOL break $295? Or is the incentive a horrible idea that will affect developers?

Solana owes its success to meme coins; it’s as simple as that. The success of some of the best Solana meme coins like BONK, BOME, WIF, and many others, including PNUT, pushed the demand for SOL to unprecedented levels in 2024 through early 2025, propelling prices as high as $295.

Pump.fun Behind The Rapid Rise of Solana

Central to this meme coin boom is Pump.fun. While there are alternatives, like the recently launched LaunchLab by Raydium, a DEX on Solana, many developers opt to deploy via Pump.fun. This could be due to its branding, ease of use, and the fact that, through the launchpad generator, many speculators in the last bull cycle struck gold, becoming overnight millionaires.

The numbers don’t lie. According to Dune Analytics, Pump.fun processed over $1.8 billion worth of tokens, mostly meme coins, in the past two weeks. What’s more? Since March 1, the platform has generated over $617 million in revenue.

If this trend continues, it’s easy to conclude that Pump.fun is among the top platforms on Solana, and its success could impact how SOL prices trend. Considering what Pump.fun developers announced yesterday, it’s safe to say that Solana could be entering a new meme coin-led era.

Pump.fun To Reward Meme Coin Creators

Pump.fun is incentivizing the creation of meme coins, and those whose creations go viral stand to reap millions in fees.

The launchpad announced a creator revenue-sharing model, doubling down on its vision of empowering anyone, anywhere in the world, to mint meme coins and earn real SOL in return.

In a post, the platform said 50% of all revenue generated by PumpSwap, its DEX, will now be shared with meme coin creators.

This initiative is historic: it’s the first of its kind on Solana, and creators can now earn passive income in SOL based on how actively their creations are traded.

The model is straightforward: every trade on a qualifying token earns the creator 0.05% in SOL. For example, if $100 million worth of a token is swapped, the creator receives $50,000 directly into their wallet.

However, there are rules. The offer applies only to newly created tokens and those trading in the Pump.fun bonding curve.

This makes Pump.fun the most rewarding meme coin generator on Solana.

Will This Destabilize The Launchpad And Solana?

Still, not everyone is thrilled.

Many expect thousands of new tokens to be minted. However, this boom could destabilize the very ecosystem it helps build, possibly impacting SOL, one of the best cryptos to buy in 2025.

Critics warn that this model might incentivize creators to relaunch tokens, making it less appealing to become the chief token officer or steward of an existing project, as some may chase top meme coins to farm fees.

This could stifle innovation, leading to unsustainable speculation. Consider this: over 99% of all Pump.fun meme coins fail and never graduate.

Furthermore, even for tokens still in the bonding curve, traders often lose money, and rug pulls are common.

While this is expected, it remains to be seen how the community will react and whether Pump.fun will help propel SOL prices above $300 in this bull cycle.

For now, the co-founder of Pump.fun thinks the community should normalize backing developers “as long as they remain committed.” Doing so will allow the emergence of ” totally new markets that are unconstrained by the assumption that the dev is working against holders.”
