Redpath says it has been awarded two new underground mining projects from Evolution Mining in Australia, confirming so in a recent job posting.
Redpath Mining has been selected as the preferred contractor for the Bert project at Ernest Henry Mine in north Queensland, with Redpath Australia selected as the preferred mining contractor for the Northparkes E22 Block Cave Development project in New South Wales.
In February 2026, the Evolution Board approved mining of the Bert deposit, an incremental addition to Ernest Henry’s mining operations. Bert is intended to be developed and extracted by conventional stope mining with an estimated mine life of approximately seven years, from financial year 2029 to financial year 2035. The approval followed a prefeasibility study, which confirmed that Bert represents an incremental addition to existing operations at Ernest Henry, unlocking latent processing capacity, enhancing mine plan flexibility and delivering value without materially increasing site footprint or operational risk to the main cave.
Redpath says its underground mining contract at Bert comes with a five-year term and is focused on developing a new orebody. In its June quarter report, Evolution said Bert project activities had commenced on site and are expected to ramp up in the June quarter of 2027.
Evolution’s Board approved development of the E22 block cave at Northparkes at the same time with a capital investment of A$545 million ($381 million), establishing a long‑life, low‑cost bulk underground operation. The project is a key pillar of Northparkes’ long‑term operating strategy, ensuring continuity of underground ore to maintain throughput, cost competitiveness and a durable production profile, the company says. First ore is expected to be produced from the end of the 2030 financial year. The block cave is expected to operate for approximately nine years, enabling some 6 Mt/y steady‑state underground production and efficient utilisation of the processing plant.
