Revanth Reddy Unveils Ambitious 3-Year Renewable Energy Plan to Meet Telangana’s Soaring Power Demand

In response to Telangana’s rapidly escalating electricity needs, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed the state’s energy department to develop a comprehensive three-year electricity roadmap with a strong emphasis on renewable energy. This initiative aligns with the state’s ‘Clean and Green Energy Policy’ and aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply amid projections that demand will reach 18,138 MW by 2025–26 and 31,808 MW by 2034–35.

Strategic Focus on Renewable Energy

During a high-level review meeting, CM Revanth Reddy emphasized the necessity of transitioning to renewable energy sources to support the state’s industrial growth, including the establishment of Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and data centers. He advocated for the adoption of innovative solutions such as floating solar power and pumped storage projects to bolster clean energy production.

Infrastructure Modernization Initiatives

To modernize the state’s power infrastructure, the Chief Minister proposed several initiatives:

  • Solar Panels on Outer Ring Road (ORR):
Plans are underway to install solar panels along the 160-kilometer stretch of the ORR, maximizing the use of available space for energy generation.

  • Smart Poles in Hyderabad:
A pilot project will introduce smart poles equipped with lighting, surveillance, public Wi-Fi, and electric vehicle charging capabilities in key areas of Hyderabad, including the Secretariat, Necklace Road, and KBR Park.

  • Underground Power Infrastructure:
In the envisioned ‘Future City,’ all electricity poles, towers, and supply lines will be relocated underground to enhance urban aesthetics and reduce outage risks due to weather.

Meeting Rising Power Demand

Telangana has already achieved a record-high power demand of 17,172 MW this year, marking a 9.8% increase over the previous year. The proposed three-year plan aims to address the anticipated surge in demand driven by industrial development, metro rail expansion, electric vehicles, and the growth of data centers.
