Samta Group Breaks Ground on Morocco’s First Copper and Aluminium Recycling Plant: A Milestone in Global Green Manufacturing
In a major leap for sustainable industry and international collaboration, Samta Metals & Alloys (SMA)—a flagship company of the Samta Group—has officially broken ground on Morocco’s first dedicated copper and aluminium recycling plant, situated in the Atlantic Free Zone (AFZ) of Kenitra. This strategic move not only marks a historic first for Morocco but also places the country on the map as a rising hub in green metallurgy and circular economy practices in North Africa.

Green Manufacturing at Its Core
The USD 70 million facility, spread over 36,600 square meters, is designed to recycle 46,000 tons of copper and aluminium scrap annually, producing green aluminium ingots and copper rods for key industrial applications such as automotive, construction, and electrical sectors.
What sets this facility apart is its 100% reliance on renewable energy, making it one of the most environmentally advanced recycling operations in the region. By drastically reducing the carbon footprint—cutting emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional smelting processes—Samta is not just building a factory; it’s pioneering a sustainable industrial revolution in Morocco.
Expected to Be Operational by 2026
With the project on track to commence full-scale operations by 2026, Samta’s plant will play a central role in Morocco’s national push toward green industrialization, material efficiency, and sustainable employment generation.
Key Project Highlights:
-
Facility Size: 36,600 sq. meters
-
Annual Capacity: 46,000 tons of aluminium & copper scrap
-
Energy Source: 100% renewable power
-
Carbon Reduction: Up to 90% less CO₂ emissions
-
Jobs Created: 400+ inclusive local employment opportunities
