Sandvik invests in new Turku logistics hub for load and haul equipment

Sandvik says it is investing in a new logistics hub at its factory for load and haul underground mining equipment in Turku, Finland, to strengthen customer service, improve material flow and support shorter factory lead times.

The new hub will bring key logistics operations closer to production, replacing parts of the current logistics flow located approximately 13 km away at Turku harbour. By integrating logistics more closely with the factory, Sandvik aims to create a smoother and more efficient material flow, reduce handling and buffer times and support faster and more reliable deliveries to customers.

Wayne Scrivens, President, Load & Haul, Sandvik Mining, said: “Customer expectations for delivery reliability, flexibility and speed continue to increase. This investment strengthens our ability to serve customers with shorter lead times, more predictable deliveries and a more efficient end-to-end production flow. The Turku factory plays an important role in Sandvik’s global load and haul offering, and this investment supports our continued development of world-class manufacturing and logistics capabilities in Finland.”

The new logistics hub is designed to support the Turku factory’s long-term competitiveness and operational development. In addition to accelerating material flows, the investment will contribute to improved internal efficiency and a safer working environment by reducing unnecessary transport, handling and movement between separate locations.

For customers, the investment is expected to create added value through improved responsiveness, stronger delivery performance and increased ability to meet future demand for advanced and intelligent underground mining equipment. The Turku factory manufactures underground load and haul equipment, including battery-electric and diesel machines, supporting the mining industry’s transition toward safer, more productive and more sustainable operations.

“Efficient logistics is a key part of customer value,” Scrivens said. “By improving how materials move through our operations, we can better support our customers’ productivity and project schedules. This investment is another step in strengthening our operational platform in Finland and ensuring that Sandvik remains a trusted partner for mining customers globally.”

The project is part of Sandvik’s continued investment in its Turku operations. In recent years, Sandvik has expanded and modernized its Turku factory to support growing demand for underground load and haul equipment, electrification and digitalisation.

Construction of the logistics hub is planned to proceed in phases, with ramp-up expected after completion of the facility and installation of operational systems in September 2027.
