We talked to Electric Classic Cars’ CEO Richard Morgan about their EV conversion kits for safari game viewers a few weeks ago and they’ve already made significant progress, locking in a partnership with South Africa’s largest builder of electric safari vehicles.

“This partnership represents a natural extension of our mission to bring clean electric technology to iconic and hard-working vehicles,” Electric Classic Cars CEO Richard Morgan said in a statement in the press release announcing the deal. “By combining ECC’s engineering expertise with Electric Safari Vehicles’ deep sector knowledge, we are able to support the safari industry’s transition to sustainable transport in a practical, scalable way.”

The partnership will make it easier for safari operators to purchase fully built electric safari vehicles. Having a local operator in the area also provides a solid foundation for support and service for operators who are still skeptical about electric vehicles.

“We are excited to partner with Electric Classic Cars to bring a proven, reliable and cost-effective electric drivetrain solution to safari operators,” Steve Blatherwick, CEO of Electric Safari Vehicles, said. “This partnership expands access to clean mobility across game reserves, lowers running costs, and enhances the guest experience with quieter, non-polluting vehicles.”

The team at Electric Safari Vehicles has been building specialized safari vehicles for the last 15 years and partnering with ECC should help standardize their offerings and drive scale. Using a standard kit to retrofit vehicles they already know and love lowers the barrier to entry into electric vehicles. Retrofits also saves a ton of effort and cash by reusing vehicles that have already been kitted out as safari vehicles.

Electric Safari Vehicles has been building electric vehicles for a wide range of applications in commercial, mining, forestry, and of course, safari vehicles since their inception 15 years ago. Their work has served as a beachhead for South African businesses to add electric vehicles to their businesses. With serviceability as one of the key deliverables of the new conversion kit and local support from ESV, the market is ripe for disruption.

We’re pumped about the project because driving around in a silent, zero emission vehicle that doesn’t scare animals off and smell like diesel sounds like the perfect way to escape into nature.
