After Jeffy Yu, the founder of AI agent token, ZEREBRO, seemingly died by suicide, a legacy meme coin, LLJEFFY crypto, surged more than 2000% before crashing back down.
Yesterday (May 6), a video was posted to X allegedly showing Jeffy Yu, 22, smoking a cigarette before pulling the trigger and committing suicide. However, on-chain analytics have since shown activity in wallets tied to the ZEREBRO founder, and a posthumous letter from the developer strongly suggests that Yu staged his suicide.

The Plot Thickens In The Jeffy Yu Suicide Drama
The crypto community was in a state of shock and mourning yesterday when the San Francisco Chronicle posted an obituary online for Jeffy Yu. The founder of crypto AI agent ZEREBRO was reported to have died by suicide.
However, the obituary was later removed due to a lack of evidence that Yu had actually passed. provided to local media. The local coroner’s office reportedly claimed that nobody with the founder’s surname had recently passed in the area.
When someone submits an obituary via the San Francisco Chronicle’s online form they are required to pay a fee of at least $299 and provide confirmation of death via the funeral home, crematorium, or a death certificate.
After filing the form, the obituary is automatically uploaded to Legacy.com. Since no confirmation had been given on Yu’s death, the obituary was removed.
Yesterday (May 6), video began circulating on X, showing Jeffy smoking a cigarette before seemingly shooting himself in the head with a gun. From the get-go, there were sceptics in the comments, noting that a lack of gore and the camera going blurry could mean it was staged.

Posthumous Blog Post From ZEREBRO Founder Announces The Launch Of His ‘Legacoin’: A Short Timeline Of LLJEFFY Crypto
(GECKO TERMINAL)
In a scheduled blog post following his death, Yu said; “If you’re reading this, it’s because my 72 hour deadman’s switch triggered so I’m not here, at least physically..This is a legacoin, my final art piece. $LLJEFFY”
In his supposedly posthumous Sunday blog post, Yu announced the inception of the “Legacoin,” a term referencing legacy meme coins that are dedicated to someone who has passed. This post was signed “LLJEFFY,” with many deducing that the ‘LL’ stands for Long Live (Jeffy).
According to Gecko Terminal, the Pump.fun launched Solana token LLJEFFY crypto skyrocketed more than 2,100%, reaching a market cap of around $104.8 million. LLJEFFY crypto has since tanked, falling over 90% from its near $105m market cap to just $14.7m.
The full blog post goes deep into Jeffys struggles with how trading can ruin art, why he hates money, and explains that internet fame led to the downfall of his personal life.
“As soon as I got a little rich and a little famous online, everything meaningful fell apart, friends, family, romantic relationships, co-founders,” the post says. “Nothing was simple anymore, everyone was ulterior.”
Yu co-founded the ZEREBRO project, alongside Tint Blorm. It is an AI agent that gained notoriety due to its emo trap rap career and dry humor on social media.
ZEREBRO was a huge success early on, peaking at a $784 million market cap in January 2025. But its price has since collapsed 95% to $36 million as the AI crypto sector has since lost much of its early hype.
Private Letter From Jeffy To An Early ZEREBRO Investor Alleges That Yu Is Still Alive
The dev of Zerebro faked his own suicide.
Mortuary websites. Obituaries. Tribute posts.
The entire space mourned.
But now, proof has surfaced: he’s alive.

A late night X thread from prominent trader Daniele Sesta yesterday completely flipped this story on its head. In it, Sesta claimed that Yu faked his suicide, even posting proof.
The proof came in the form of a letter, allegedly sent from Yu to an early ZEREBRO investor, whom Jeffy wasn’t aware had round tripped his entire ZEREBRO trade.
In the letter, Jeffy states, “I created a video in which I depict myself shooting myself. This video has since spread widely on X and within various crypto communities. My decision to create and indirectly disseminate this video was deliberate. In my perspective, this was my only viable exit persistent harassment, blackmail, and threats.”
The letter goes on to say that since having his home addresses doxxed, Yu had been fearing for his safety. Both his phone number and his home address was regularly released online by bitter ZEREBRO traders.
Yu tells the ZEREBRO investor that he decided to fake his own suicide as had he stepped away openly, the ZEREBRO and OPAIUM tokens, which are tied to him, would have tanked further, resulting in what Yu believed would have been even more ‘intense targeting’.
Other notable parts of the letter include Yu saying that he will now focus on music in anonymity and that he is physically and mentally sound and not seeking any assistance.
A wallet likely linked to Jeffy Yu sold 35.55M $ZEREBRO for 8,572 $SOL($1.27M) ~50 minutes ago.
Then transferred 7,100 $SOL($1.06M) to $LLJEFFY’s dev wallet “G5sjgj”.https://t.co/wXOcTwJqHk pic.twitter.com/CpNVomAtCb

Backing up the validity of Daniele Sesta’s letter from Jeffy, on-chain shenanigans have taken place with a Jeffy Yu-linked wallet. On-chain analytics firm showed that at around 3:45am CET today (May 7), a wallet linked to Yu sold $1.27m of ZEREBRO before transferring $1.06m in SOL to the LLJEFFY developer wallet.
Not stopping there, the funds sent to the LLJEFFY wallet has since been buying up its own token, attempting to pump the price. The ploy hasn’t helped the price of LLJEFFY crypto as it is still down over 95% from yesterdays highs as investors continue to dump the ‘Legacoin’ now that Yu is reportedly alive.
As of right now, Jeffy Yu has not publicly resurfaced to address the situation nor has his death been officially confirmed by authorities. Many in the community are now labelling Yu as yet another serial crypto scammer, just with a more elaborate exit scam than most.
