It was just about one month ago that the Team Kentucky EV Charging program announced its tenth Kentucky EV fast-charging site was completed and open for charging. Two new EV fast-charging stations were recently installed and made operational; one in Elizabethtown and another in Shepherdsville. Each new station has four very fast 400 kW charging ports.

The Elizabethtown station is located at 601 Ring Road near the Wendell H. Ford Western Kentucky Parkway at Exit 133. The Shepherdsville station is not far from I-65 and is located at 1090 Cedar Grove Road off Exit 116.

“Electric vehicles are here to stay. That’s why we’re quickly expanding our charging network to make sure no family or business in Kentucky has to worry about where their next charge is coming from,” said Gov. Andy Beshear.

More public fast chargers are needed to support long-distance EV driving; many electric vehicles have enough range for short drives but not long road trips. Adding more public fast chargers that can charge a car from 10 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes, or sometimes less, supports EV drivers who need to drive further than what is required on a work commute or to do some local errands.

“The EV chargers are paired with clean, well-lit facilities, fresh food offerings and comfortable amenities that give drivers a place to recharge both their vehicles and themselves. As Kentucky continues to advance transportation electrification and invest in future-ready infrastructure, Love’s is proud to support that progress by building a network that makes EV travel more accessible and practical across the state,” said Kim Okafor, director of strategic growth for Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores. Love’s developed the two new charging stations.

Fourteen more public EV charging stations are under construction in Kentucky, according to the press release.
