The Electric Mine 2026: Electrification commitment on show

The Electric Mine 2026, due to take place in Lisbon, Portugal, is now just six weeks away, with the energy security concerns caused by the evolving war in the Middle East making for a compelling backdrop.

Set to take place from May 5-7 in Lisbon, The Electric Mine 2026 is the sixth edition of this global mine electrification fest. The conference, exhibition and networking event is set to explore the latest developments in the sector – developments that have been both positive and negative.

In the former category is the ongoing engagement around electrification and decarbonisation. The ICMM’s ICSV initiative continues to push the agenda when it comes to safety and highlighting successful adoption stories; OEMs and solution providers continue to evaluate prototype technologies, accelerating industry trials and commercial deployments where possible; and mining company frontrunners continue to invest in the people, technology and resources to make long-term electrification a reality.

The latter includes some well-documented decarbonisation investment deferrals at the top end of mining town; a strategic fleet refocus to make the most of higher prices in some commodity spaces; and a swathe of redundancies that could jeopardise the industry making the decarbonisation gains that are needed to achieve net zero objectives.

The higher oil prices and diesel supply fears that have shaken the mining market also have some commentators predicting that a prolonged conflict could accelerate the onset of electrification – like the oil crisis of the 1970s that led to the uptake of trolley assist solutions in Africa.

All of these developments will be aired in six weeks’ time in Lisbon; whether that is over a cocktail, coffee or pastel de nata (Portugal’s famous custard tarts).

Even with this varied backdrop, The Electric Mine 2026 will showcase how far the industry has travelled down ‘electric avenue’.

The agenda will be full of case studies, panel discussions and technology deep dives that instil confidence in making the technology leap.

Day 1 will be reserved for high-level mining company talks from the likes of Boliden, Vale Base Metals and others, evaluating company-wide roadmaps, as well as expanding on decarb and electrification gains made to date. This will be complemented by an ICMM-ICSV coordinated panel on greenhouse gas reduction enablers, a Skarn Associates-moderated panel on financing electrification projects, a CharIN- and ICMM-led panel that charts the progress made towards reaching a charging interoperability consensus for heavy-duty mining applications, plus a discussion on the future of green grids (featuring speakers from Boliden, Barrick and Freeport-McMoRan).

We also expect to soon announce a speaker representative from the European Union to provide the political context behind the continent’s shift towards lowering the carbon intensity associated with the mining and refining of commodities.

Days 2 & 3 are reserved for technical talks on surface mining and underground mining, respectively.

Included within this line-up are joint presentations from FLANDERS and MMG Las Bambas; Boliden and Komatsu; Cummins and Lundin Mining Caserones; U&M and ABB; TONLY and SECMC; ABB and LKAB; Fortescue, Maclean and HYDAC; Dos Santos International and NMDC; Conductix Wampfler and Vale; Endeavour and VoltVision; Echion and CBMM; Komatsu and K+S; SRK and AngloGold Ashanti; and many others. We’ll also hear from Codelco and Eldorado Gold on their underground electric advances, gain some well-needed regulation perspective from Snowden Optiro, plus broadcast several panels focused on collaborating on battery-enabled vehicle safety, evaluating flexible and interoperable trolley platforms and developing ground-up electric light vehicle solutions.

Agenda 2026

ion that sees delegates kick the tyres, touch the iron and witness brand new technology launches. Komatsu, ABB, Staubli, Normet, Sandvik, Epiroc and Jakob Mining Vehicle will provide all this and more in our central equipment showcase area – which will be open from the Welcome Drinks on the evening of May 4 – while attendees will be able to tour around the global electrification ecosystem that is represented across thousands of square metres within FIL Pavilion 4. Major OEMs such as Caterpillar, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Liebherr, TONLY and MMD will be present, as will major system integrators like Siemens, FLANDERS, Allison Transmissions and more.

2026 Exhibitors

A Welcome Reception, Coffee breaks, Lunches and the Day 1 Mine and Mingle will provide those scheduled breaks from the plenaries for informal conversation in our designated seating areas, while a series of bookable meeting rooms will be available for more private engagements that require PowerPoints and a discussion.

The stage is set for a blockbuster event in Lisbon; one that establishes that the electrification catalysts are here to stay.
